The military cemeteries of Fosses, Saint-Gérard and Biesmes, inaugurated from 2nd September 1918, joined German and French soldiers.

The one at Fosses: 2 French officers and 27 soldiers, and 19 German soldiers, killed during the course of the battles of La Sambre. Le Kreischef, after a reminder of the violent battles where the 2nd German Army defeated the 5th French Army, laid a wreath, as did the President of the Civil Service, Baron von Hundt, and the Civil Service Commissioner, S. von Hauffman, who pointed out that 'Death unites those whom life divides'.

A German Catholic priest and a German Protestant Pastor blessed the cemetery, which was entrusted to the community, and which Burgomaster Roisin confirmed, saying that all those who died for their country have the right to the respect and esteem of everyone.
