Mar de Fóra (Outside Sea) was the ancient Roman name for the Atlantic Ocean. This isolated natural area, located on the west side of the Cape, faces away from the village of Finisterre and is far from the town centre. It has 2 300 feet of fine sand and is located in an area included in the Natura 2000 network.

This area has high winds and heavy surf, so it is not suitable for swimming, as you will see on the signs at the beach access, which also indicate that camping is prohibited.

Spending the afternoon and waiting for the sun to set will let you enjoy the extraordinary beauty of the sunset at Mar de Fóra.

You can walk here from the town, through the narrow streets to the Mar de Fóra School, or by the "Camiño da Insua", a busy road starting at the church of Santa María das Areas.
