Built between 1851-1853 , in Monte Faro 184 meters, was enabled for navigation safety. Its position at the top of the mountain was criticized because light couldn´t be seen with fog. So other lighthouses were added in Cíes, Porta, Peito, Bicos. An engineering masterpiece, taking several meters from the mountain, achieving a base where infrastructure was established, and also because of the sinuous access to the lighthouse from Carracido pier.

Until 1952 it was inhabited by lighthouse keepers and their families, who were part of the island population, providing educational assistance. When automated, lighthouse keepers stopped living in it, although was used to transport fuel to the lighthouse. This service was provided by the neighbours and interrupted in 1972 as technicians got a vehicle to raise acetylene bottles to the lighthouse.

The living conditions were very difficult, in a place exposed to winds and salinity and facilities deteriorate easily. Services, housing and water tank completed the kit. Housing was abolished in 1980, today we can only see the tower and lantern.

Frequent lighthouse keepers requests for change destination because of the hardness of life. Sometimes when the weather was stormy electrical sparks fell on the building.

From this point, we see the Atlantic Ocean, South Island and the rest of the archipelago, Freu da Porta, inlet and outlet of the river, north and south, islets Carabelos , Ruzo , Boeiro and the mainland, O Morrazo , Vigo, Nigrán , Baiona and saws like Groba Galiñeiro until cape Silleiro.
